This spring we decided to sign Garrett up for his first county rec soccer team. Having grown up attending all my brother's soccer games and watching our nephews play, I think I was just as excited as Garrett! He loves wearing his soccer uniform and shin guards and cleats. At this age, they don't really play any games. There is a ref who leads the team in different drills and games, like Stuck in the Mud, and then at the end they divide into two groups and try to kick the ball in the goal. It's so fun to watch! Of course there is the superstar who literally runs circles around the others while his parents try to act shocked and embarassed, but secretly they are delighted. There are the young and sensitive ones who burst into tears everytime someone bumps them or their ball. There are the ones who could really care less and draw in the dirt most of the time or run off the field repeatedly, telling their parents they don't want to play soccer. And then there are the rest who are having fun most of the time, understanding most of what the ref & coach are telling them and are able to do most of the things they are supposed to. Thankfully, Garrett fits into this last group and was able to enjoy his first soccer experience!
